The Sony Alpha 7 IV is a versatile full-frame mirrorless camera designed to combine high-resolution photography with advanced video capabilities in a single camera body. At its core is a 33.0MP full-frame Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor, paired with Sony’s BIONZ XR image processing engine for responsive image processing and camera performance.

For autofocus, the Alpha 7 IV uses Fast Hybrid AF with 759 phase-detection points for still images, providing extensive autofocus coverage across the frame. Its Real-Time Eye AF system supports recognition and tracking of people, animals, and birds, making the camera suitable for photographing both stationary and moving subjects.

The camera can shoot continuously at up to 10 fps with AF/AE tracking, making it suitable for capturing action, events, portraits, and everyday moments where timing matters. Because apparently humans still insist on pressing the shutter at precisely the wrong fraction of a second.

For video, the Alpha 7 IV records 4K video at up to 60p with 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording. The supplied product information specifies that 4K 60p uses Super 35mm mode, providing detailed footage and extensive color information for post-production workflows.

The camera also incorporates 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization rated up to 5.5 stops, helping reduce the effects of camera shake during handheld photography and video recording.

Storage is handled through two memory card slots. Slot 1 accepts either CFexpress Type A or SD UHS-II, while Slot 2 supports SD UHS-II cards. The body also features a fully articulating touchscreen, a high-resolution OLED electronic viewfinder, USB-C connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB streaming capabilities.

The camera uses the Sony E-mount, giving users access to Sony E-mount lenses and compatible lens options.
